Vulcan Tech Gospel 1 Explained:

DOWNLOAD THE VTG1

This original chapter was created in 2010.   As we approach the tenth year of the Vulcan Tech Gospel Project and the release of the final installment VTG3 the older chapters are going to be re-released.

The VTG 1 was a collaborative work between many.   Much of the nomenclature has changed drastically over the years.  Please enjoy this description and document.  I think it might be enlightening to some.

The design of the logo was completed by Forest Stearns, a dear friend that I wish I had more time to spend with.  This logo has been used in many places and is also a tattoo.

VULCAN TECH GOSPEL CHAPTERS EXPLAINED

Minimal Beat Shapes

This chapter was first discovered and worked through by Brian Thompson.  He generated many manipulatives to understand how a spinner could move between many of the different patterns.

Transition Theory

This chapter was deeply meditated on by David Cantor, Jordan Campbell and myself.  David generated the image in the center of the document.  Here the overlaying circles show transitions without the compound circle.

The Necessity of 40 Patterns

This was Noel Yee’s attempt to organize and settle a finite number of patterns for the VTG framework.

Transitions Between Shapes

This chapter was the origin of the final chapter, VTG 3.   This is the first attempt to understand how all of the patterns connected to one another.   This chapter is not visited often but has many of elements that are worthy of attention.

3-D Hybrid Shapes

This chapter was created in Mike Icon and Jennifer Longo’s house in Philadelphia in the winter of 2011.   Noel went to visit Mike and Jenn.   Ben Drexler and Mike Icon met him there.   Here they puzzled over the 3-D shapes that were possible and how to think about them.    They uncovered an interesting theory that from one angle the patterns would turn into lines of different lengths.    After this, they applied this understanding to generate 3-D hybrid shapes.  There is a flow artist in our community that has this tattoo.
